Abstract

This study focuses on a group of six students of an Educational Institute in Greater Florianópolis. I looked for a theoretical and methodological path that would maintain coherence with the Cultural Studies of Foucault and the Semiological Elements of Roland Barthes. The main goal of this article is to determine children s perceptions of their childhood, and what they say about this experience, based on the narratives, meanings and interpretations of the images of themselves. I therefore proposed a reflection on childhood and the culture of image, using photography as a methodological resource, through which the children interacted with their day-to-day lives, based on the free production of images. With the data and the results of the research, I analyzed the aspects that constitute childhood in the children s perspectives, based on the images produced. Seeking to make the processes evident, images were produced as a reading of the world and as an opportunity for the children to give meaning to their childhood. In the results, I seek to show the subject s experiences, through photography, as a mechanism of capturing the reality of their childhoods. The images of childhood gave the subjects an opportunity to perceive themselves, others, and their relationship with the world. Giving the children a voice and enabling them to listen to the meanings associated with the image, sometimes as spectators, sometimes as authors of the process. In this case, the records and the narratives of self do not seek only to affirm the identity of childhood, but represent a search for transformation, subjective construction in experience about themselves, that authorize the constant dialog between the images and narratives, contributing to new senses and meanings of Childhood in culture times and spaces today
